SAMORA CORREIA (PORTUGAL)

SAMORA CORREIA

 N 38.93606; W 8. 86683

Samora Correia is a Portuguese parish in the municipality of Benavente, with 321.39 km² of area and 17 123 inhabitants (2011). Its population density is 53.3 inhabitants / km².
It is assumed that the origin of the city of Samora Correia is linked to Fortim de Belmonte. The area of Fortim de Belmonte was never constituted as a settlement, as its area was remote, the swampy terrain and the adjacent heath was arid, not allowing cultivation. Thus, around him, new Commendations began to appear, including that of Samora Correia.
The village of Samora Correia has, from the point of view of urban typology, two historic centers still defined and circumscribed to the area surrounding the Church of Nossa Senhora da Oliveira and Largo 25 de Abril, understanding the west limit, the River Almansor.
